Although it is not necessarily a "diet" to lose weight, the Mediterranean style of eating can be a healthy option for many people. In general, this diet consists of eating fewer meats and carbohydrates and more plant-based foods and monounsaturated (good) fat than the typical American diet.
 
And while the Mediterranean diet may lead to more stable blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, and a reduced risk of heart disease, it may not be right for everyone. Before adopting this plan, talk to your healthcare provider about possible exceptions hat may apply to you.
