How the Top 10 Diets Stack Up

It seems that every month there is a new diet that everybody is talking about. You see all the infomercials of the people who have lost "20, 50, and even 100 pounds!" Have you ever wondered what the differences are among all of these diets and how easy they are to follow?
In 2013, U.S. News & World Report ranked these diets on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the best) according to seven different criteria and came up with an overall score for each diet. Keep reading to see how each diet stacks up compared to the rest.

#1: DASH Diet

First off, what does DASH even stand for? It stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This diet will make you aware of your salt (sodium) intake. It emphasizes all the food that your mother tried to make you eat as a child: lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds, nuts, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products. It doesn't cut out any entire food groups, making it relatively easy to follow. The main things cut out are red meat and salty, fatty, and sugary foods.
Cutting out the extra sodium and sugar makes this diet ideal for people with diabetes, and it can also help lower blood pressure. Nobody likes to be starving while on a diet. This plan claims that by eating the lean proteins and high-fiber vegetables and fruit, it won't leave your stomach growling for more.
