All About the Biggest Loser
The go-to drink of choice is water. You should drink at least six to eight cups each day. You can add slices of cucumber, herb sprigs, or citrus fruits if you find plain old water too boring. Some other beverage options may include:
- No-calorie flavored water
- Herbal tea.
However, these other beverage options should be consumed in moderation. Also, avoid drinking more than one or two diet sodas a day. Nondiet soda is off-limits on the Biggest Loser diet, as one 20-ounce soda can contain 17 teaspoons of sugar and 250 empty calories.
What about alcohol? Although alcohol should be limited, it is not forbidden on the Biggest Loser diet. If you want, you can use your 200 extra calories on a glass of wine, beer, or spirits. If you choose to have a drink, the Biggest Loser diet generally recommends red wine, as it has been shown to be heart-healthy and full of antioxidants.
It's important to note, however, that if you choose to drink alcohol, it can interfere with your body's ability to burn fat. It also lowers your inhibitions and stimulates appetite.
As you lose weight, your daily caloric requirement will also drop. For every pound of weight lost, you decrease the number of calories you expend each day by 10. This means that if you want to keep losing weight, you have to eat fewer calories, exercise more, or both.
Once you hit a plateau, you have a number of options, including:
- Cut your calories from your extras
- Replace whole-grain servings with vegetables
- Pick lower-calorie protein foods
- Replace fruit servings with vegetable servings.
