TrimSpa

TrimSpa is a weight-loss supplement that is available in a variety of products. Each product contains a different blend of several active ingredients. It is not exactly known how (or if) most of these ingredients work. However, most of the products contain hoodia, which is suggested to suppress the appetite. TrimSpa may cause potential side effects such as insomnia, high blood pressure, and a rapid heart rate.

TrimSpa products are made by Nutramerica Corporation.
 

How Does It Work?

At one point, TrimSpa contained ephedra, although ephedra has since been banned due to safety concerns. Now, ephedra-free versions of TrimSpa contain many different active ingredients, such as caffeine, glucomannan, hoodia, and green tea extract. Each product has a different blend of several active ingredients. In general, it is not exactly known how (or if) most of these ingredients work, although some of these ingredients may work as stimulants.
 
Most of these products also contain hoodia, an ingredient that has been suggested to suppress the appetite (although this claim has not been supported by any reliable scientific evidence).
 

Is It Effective?

There is a lack of scientific evidence to support a conclusion that it is effective for weight loss. No adequate research studies have been performed and published confirming that it is effective for weight loss.

Side Effects of TrimSpa

What If I Take an Overdose?

For the products that contain stimulants, it is reasonable to assume that taking too much TrimSpa can cause stimulant overdose effects, such as:
 
  • Insomnia
  • Muscle twitching
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Confusion
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Fever
  • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • A rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Hallucinations
  • Dizziness
  • Seizures
  • Loss of life.
 
Other than the possible overdose effects due to the stimulants in some TrimSpa products, it is not known what to expect from an overdose with a TrimSpa product.
