Tenuate® (
diethylpropion hydrochloride) is a prescription
weight loss drug. It is an appetite suppressant and is approved only for short-term use (just a few weeks). Tenuate is chemically related to amphetamines and has the potential to be abused.
Tenuate was originally made by Aventis Pharmaceuticals (now known as sanofi-aventis). However, the patent has since expired and generic Tenuate is now available. In fact, brand-name Tenuate is no longer made.

- Diethylpropion 25 mg tablets (short-acting)
- Diethylpropion 75 mg controlled-release tablets (long-acting).
