Suprenza Uses

Suprenza helps decrease appetite in obese people who want to lose weight. It is used in combination with a low-calorie diet, exercise, and behavior modification. Suprenza is approved for short-term use only, as using it for longer periods or in higher doses may increase the risk for serious side effects, a physical dependence, and addiction.

What Is Suprenza Used For?

Suprenza™ (orally disintegrating phentermine) is a prescription medication approved for short-term use to help with weight loss in people who are also reducing their daily calories, exercising, and modifying behaviors that may lead to weight gain. This medication should only be used for a few weeks, and only in people who have:

Obesity can be generally categorized as endogenous or exogenous. Endogenous obesity is obesity caused by a condition within the body, such as problems with hormones or metabolism. Exogenous obesity is obesity caused by eating too much. Suprenza is only approved to help manage exogenous obesity. Before you use this medicine, your healthcare provider may need to make sure you do not have a medical condition that may be causing obesity.

Suprenza is just one part of a total weight loss plan. The weight loss plan should also include a low-calorie diet, exercise, and behavioral modifications. Simply put, weight loss occurs when a person takes in fewer calories than they burn. Diet and behavioral modification can decrease the number of calories consumed, while exercise increases the number of calories burned.

Suprenza can help with weight loss by suppressing the appetite, which means it makes you feel less hungry. However, the appetite-suppressant effects of Suprenza usually wear off after a few weeks. Once these effects stop, Suprenza should also be stopped. Doses higher than the recommended amount should not be used to try to overcome tolerance to the medicine's effects; higher doses may cause serious side effects and may lead to physical dependence and addiction.
