Qsymia Mechanism of Action

Qsymia® (phentermine and topiramate) is a prescription diet pill licensed to help certain adults who are overweight or obese lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. It comes as a capsule that is taken once a day.

Qsymia's mechanism of action involves helping people feel full faster and to eat less. The product contains two diet medications, phentermine and topiramate. Phentermine, which is similar to amphetamines, works by suppressing appetite and decreasing the amount of food a person eats.

It isn't exactly clear how topiramate works, but it is thought to help suppress appetite and enhance feelings of fullness.
