No studies have been conducted on Phentramine and pregnancy, so it is unknown if the medication is safe to use when pregnant. Because so little is known about the potential risks of Phentramine, pregnant women should avoid the product. Also, pregnant women should not take Phentramine since pregnancy is a time of increased caloric intake and nutritional need, not a time for dieting.
Phentramine and Pregnancy: An Overview
Phentramine™ (which is not the same as
phentermine) is a non-prescription supplement used for weight loss. Phentramine contains several active ingredients. Most of these ingredients have not been shown to be safe for use during pregnancy.
Is Phentramine Safe During Pregnancy?
It is not known if Phentramine is safe for pregnant women (or for people in general, as it has not been adequately studied). Because so little is known about the risks of using Phentramine products during pregnancy (and because of the lack of clear benefit of taking Phentramine), it is probably a good idea for pregnant women to avoid Phentramine products. In addition, pregnancy is a time of increased caloric intake and nutritional need, not usually a time to be dieting or trying to lose weight.
Phentramine contains stimulants, such as
bitter orange (
Citrus aurantium) and caffeine (contained in
guarana). These stimulants may not be safe for use during pregnancy. Caffeine during pregnancy is a controversial issue. Many women completely cut out caffeine during pregnancy, while others take a moderate approach, limiting their caffeine to a reasonable amount. Studies have also shown conflicting results
(see Caffeine and Pregnancy).
Phentramine and Pregnancy: Final Thoughts
If you are pregnant, do not take Phentramine without your healthcare provider's approval. Also, if you are concerned about your weight gain during pregnancy, please talk with your healthcare provider
(see Pregnancy Weight Gain).
