Phentermine is a weight loss medication approved for short-term use only. It is available by prescription and comes in various forms and strengths, including:
- Phentermine 15 mg capsules
- Phentermine 30 mg capsules (blue color), equivalent to Fastin®
- Phentermine 30 mg capsules (yellow color), not equivalent to Fastin
- Phentermine 37.5 mg capsules
- Phentermine 37.5 mg tablets.
People taking the capsule form of this medication for weight loss may start with 15 mg, 30 mg, or 37.5 mg once daily in the morning. If you are taking
phentermine tablets, the usual recommended dosage is half a tablet (18.75 mg) or one tablet (37.5 mg) once daily in the morning.
This medication is intended for short-term use only (just a few weeks). Longer use is not likely to be effective, since the body adjusts to the appetite-suppressing properties of the drug. Also, phentermine has the potential to be abused, which is another reason why its use should be limited to just a few weeks.
