Generic Phentermine

Besides one brand-name product, all phentermine medications are only available as a generic. Phentermine was available in a variety of brand names in the past, but drug companies have stopped making them. The generic varieties are available in both tablet and capsule form, and are available in several different strengths. Some of the companies that manufacture generic versions of the medicine include Hawkins, Inc., Actavis, Inc., and URL.

An Overview of Generic Phentermine

Phentermine is a prescription weight-loss medication. It is chemically related to amphetamines and is approved only for short-term use (for just a few weeks).
 
There were numerous different brands of phentermine available in the past, including:
 
  • Fastin®
  • Ionamin®
  • Obestin-30®
  • Oby-Trim®
  • Ona-Mast®
  • Pre-Sate®
  • Tora®.
     
However, these brand-name products are no longer available. One brand-name product is still available (Adipex-P®). In addition, orally disintegrating phentermine is available as a brand-name product (Suprenza™); it is not available in generic form yet. There is no generic available for Ionamin, a long-acting form of phentermine that is also no longer available.
