Genetics does not cause obesity. However, genetics and obesity are closely tied together. So the answer to the problem of obesity does not rest on the idea that it is a matter of genetics versus the environment -- clearly, both components are involved. Also, regardless of your genetics, everyone should adopt a heart-healthy diet and increase their physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.
