#9/10 (Two-Way Tie): Ornish Diet

This diet is one of the hardest to follow but is one of the best in terms of being heart-healthy. Dean Ornish wrote the book The Spectrum. It includes four basic elements that need to be in balance for a healthy life: nutrition, fitness, stress management, and love and support.
 
So why is this diet hard to follow? It bans food such as caffeine, simple carbohydrates, animal products, oils, and food with cholesterol in it. Fiber and complex carbohydrates are recommended, and only 10 percent of daily calories can come from fats. Food is ranked in categories from 1 (most healthful) to 5 (least healthful) based on fat content and nutritional values.
 
It is recommended to stay in groups 1 through 3 (mainly whole grains, produce, and fish), but this diet has some flexibility. For example, if you happen to eat foods from groups 4 or 5 one day, exercising more or staying in groups 1 and 2 the next day can offset that mistake. This diet boasts that it's scientifically proven to help you "feel better, live longer, lose weight, and gain health."
