Weight Loss Home > Phentramine

Phentramine is an herbal weight loss supplement that is available without a prescription. Although how it works is not entirely clear, the supplement does contain caffeine, which can have a stimulating effect. However, there is a lack of scientific evidence to support a conclusion that Phentramine is effective for weight loss. Potential side effects include high blood pressure, a fast heart rate, and sensitivity to the sun.

What Is Phentramine?

Phentramine™ is a non-prescription herbal weight loss supplement. Do not confuse Phentramine with phentermine, a prescription weight loss medication that has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As an herbal supplement, Phentramine can be marketed without any evidence that it is either safe or effective.

How Does It Work?

It is not known how (or even if) Phentramine works for weight loss. Bitter orange is a stimulant that is often used in weight loss supplements to replace ephedra, which was banned due to safety concerns. However, there is no evidence that bitter orange is any safer than ephedra. Guarana, another active ingredient in Phentramine, contains a significant amount of caffeine, which is also a stimulant. It is not known how (or if) hoodia or the other active ingredients work for weight loss.
