Lipovarin and Pregnancy

Since weight loss is the primary reason why women take Lipovarin, pregnancy is likely not a time to take the supplement. Rather, this is a time for increased caloric intake and nutritional need. In addition, Lipovarin contains caffeine and other stimulants, which may not be safe during pregnancy. Lipovarin products should probably be avoided during pregnancy, but talk to your healthcare provider if you are unsure.

Lipovarin and Pregnancy: An Overview

Lipovarin™ is a non-prescription supplement used for weight loss. It contains a variety of different active ingredients, including several stimulants. Most of these ingredients in Lipovarin have not been shown to be safe for use during pregnancy.

Is Lipovarin Safe During Pregnancy?

Lipovarin contains stimulants, such as bitter orange (Citrus aurantium), green tea, metabromine fruit extract, and caffeine. These stimulants may not be safe for use during pregnancy. Caffeine during pregnancy is a controversial issue. Many women completely cut out caffeine during pregnancy, while others take a moderate approach, limiting their intake to a reasonable amount. Studies have also shown conflicting results (see Caffeine and Pregnancy).

At this time, it is not known if Lipovarin is safe for pregnant women (or for anyone, since it has not been adequately studied). Because so little is known about the risks of using Lipovarin products during pregnancy (and because of the lack of clear benefit from taking it), pregnant women should avoid Lipovarin products. In addition, pregnancy is a time of increased caloric intake and nutritional need, not usually a time to be dieting or trying to lose weight.

Lipovarin and Pregnancy: Final Thoughts

If you are pregnant, do not take Lipovarin without your healthcare provider's approval. If you are concerned about your weight gain during pregnancy, please talk with your healthcare provider (see Pregnancy Weight Gain).
