What Is Hydroxycut Used For?
Hydroxycut® is a group of supplements used for weight loss. As supplements, Hydroxycut products have not been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for any use.
With obesity rates on the rise
(see Obesity Statistics), people are searching for "quick fixes" for weight loss. Although an
ideal weight-loss plan focuses on gradual weight loss by eating a healthy diet and increasing physical activity
(see How to Lose Weight), many people have difficulty following such plans (or feel they need extra assistance in their efforts). Before turning to drastic measures, such as
weight-loss surgery, many people consider using
weight-loss pills, especially if they have unsuccessfully tried to control their obesity (and exercise and diet have been ineffective).
It is always a good idea to consult your healthcare provider before taking any weight-loss product (including supplements). This is especially important if you have any other health problems or concerns, such as
diabetes or
heart disease.
How Does Hydroxycut Work?
At one point, Hydroxycut contained
ephedra, although ephedra has since been banned due to safety concerns. Now, ephedra-free versions of Hydroxycut contain many different active ingredients, such as
green tea extract, calcium, chromium, potassium, and various herbal blends. In general, it is not exactly known how (or if) most of these ingredients work, although some of these ingredients may work as stimulants, while others are said to work by decreasing blood sugar or reducing fat storage in the body.
