Hydroxycut Drug Interactions
Because of the caffeine that is in many Hydroxycut products, drug interactions may occur when Hydroxycut is taken with certain other medicines. Some of the medicines that may cause Hydroxycut drug interactions include diabetes medications, stimulants, and cimetidine. Some of these interactions may lead to problems, such as increasing the amount of medications in the blood (which may increase the risk of side effects).
Very little information is available about Hydroxycut® drug interactions. Based on the caffeine content in some Hydroxycut products, it is assumed that Hydroxycut will interact with various medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Hydroxycut interactions include:
- Cimetidine (Tagamet®)
- Clozapine (Clozaril®)
- Diabetes medications
- Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro®), gatifloxacin (Tequin®), gemifloxacin (Factive®), levofloxacin (Levaquin®), moxifloxacin (Avelox®), norfloxacin (Noroxin®), and ofloxacin (Floxin®)
- Fluvoxamine (Luvox®)
- Mexiletine (Mexitil®)
- Stimulants, including caffeine, cocaine, amphetamines, and many other weight-loss products
- Theophylline (Uniphyl®, Theocron®, TheoCap®, Theo-24®, Elixophyllin®).
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Hydroxycut is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Cimetidine may increase the level of caffeine (an active ingredient of some Hydroxycut products) in the blood, perhaps increasing the risk of Hydroxycut side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking cimetidine and Hydroxycut together.
