Ephedra? Ephedora is a common misspelling of ephedra.
Ephedra (ma huang) is a naturally occurring substance that was previously used as a weight loss supplement. Due to safety concerns (it was shown to cause strokes, irregular heart rhythm, and heart attacks), it has been banned in the U.S. The chemicals in ephedra may suppress the appetite or increase metabolism, but they are also responsible for many of the pill's dangerous effects. Potential side effects include insomnia, anxiety, headaches, and dizziness.
