Bontril Side Effects

Although most people have no problems with Bontril, side effects are possible. Commonly reported ones include insomnia, hyperactivity, and blurred vision. You should contact your healthcare provider right away if you develop more serious side effects of Bontril, including feelings of a rapidly or forcefully beating heart, a desire or need to take the drug more frequently than prescribed, or signs of an allergic reaction.

An Introduction to Bontril Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Bontril^® (phendimetrazine tartrate). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. In most cases, side effects occur when too much of the drug is taken.

Common Bontril Side Effects

Bontril has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to the side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine. With newer medications, the exact percentage of how often these side effects occur is available. However, with older medications (such as Bontril), percentages are not available.

In studies, Bontril side effects included:

Flushing
Blurred vision
Hyperactivity
Restlessness
Dizziness
Insomnia (see Bontril and Insomnia)
Shakiness (tremors)
Sweating
Headaches
Dry mouth
Nausea, diarrhea, or constipation
Changes in sex drive
Frequent urination or painful urination.
