Acai Berry Diet
There is no specific acai berry diet. Instead, a variety of different acai products are claimed to be beneficial for weight loss. Acai berry juices and other products have become immensely popular and are claimed to be useful as a "superfood" for treating or preventing almost any medical condition and for enhancing general health. In addition, these products are marketed to help people lose weight. There is no one particular "acai berry diet," but rather a whole host of acai berry products, such as juice blends, gels, and supplements, that are claimed to be useful for helping people lose weight.
There has been no scientific research published that indicates acai may help people lose weight. It is even difficult to speculate how acai berries might help with weight loss. Acai is most often promoted for its high antioxidant content, and antioxidants have not been linked to weight loss.
The promise of easy weight loss appears to be one of the easiest ways to sell a health food or supplement. Although acai products have been around for awhile in the United States, the craze got its real start after a few key celebrity endorsements and the suggestion that acai was a "superfood" by a notable physician.
Add to this the fact that supplements are not regulated as closely as medications (they can be marketed without any proof that they are safe or effective), and it is easy to see why it was only a matter of time until acai was marketed as a weight loss product.
